DATE NIGHT — Wheel Throwing Crash Course

6:00 pm – 8:30 pm

Our Date Night is a warm, relaxed, and hands-on introduction to wheel throwing — perfect for couples or friends who want to try something creative together.

We focus on pottery as craft, as functional art, and as a millennia-old tradition practiced around the world. The experience is simple, fun, and meaningful — no experience needed.

⭐ AVAILABILITY, WAITLIST & NEW SESSIONS

Date Nights often appear as Sold Out.
If there are no openings, you may join our waitlist.

We open new Date Night sessions when we have:

4 to 6 people ready to book.

When this happens, we contact people in the order they joined (first come, first served).
Joining the waitlist does not require payment.

⭐ WHAT TO WEAR & HOW TO PREPARE

For a comfortable experience at the wheel, we recommend:

  • Trimmed nails (long nails make throwing very difficult)

  • Casual, comfortable clothing

  • Clothes you don’t mind getting clay on

  • Old shoes and a t-shirt

  • Ideally no rings or jewelry (they can scratch clay and get damaged)

  • Bring an apron if you have one (optional, but helpful)

Clay washes out easily, but it can cling to fabrics — it’s best not to dress formally.

⭐ WHAT HAPPENS DURING THE SESSION

6:00 – 6:15 pm — Welcome & settling in

We greet you, explain the plan, and help you get comfortable at your wheels.

6:15 – 6:35 pm — Demonstration: throwing a cylinder

We show the essential steps to form a simple cylinder — the starting point for many shapes.

6:35 – 7:15 pm — First guided practice

You begin throwing your own pieces.
Early attempts are small and simple — that’s expected and part of the learning.

7:15 – 7:30 pm — Demonstration: throwing a bowl

We demonstrate how to form a bowl.
If time allows, we may also show how to throw a small plate.

7:30 – 8:05 pm — Second practice round

You continue experimenting.
Most people finish with:

  • 2–4 cylinders

  • 2–4 small bowls

  • 1–3 small plates (less common)

These are beginner practice pieces — the purpose is to experience the craft, not to produce perfect objects.

8:05 – 8:25 pm — Cleaning & wrap-up

A quick, guided cleanup together.

8:25 – 8:30 pm — Goodbyes & next steps

⭐ WHAT WE FIRE (AND WHAT WE DON’T)

To keep the experience safe and enjoyable:

We fire ONLY TWO pieces per participant.

The studio chooses the glaze colour for consistency and safety.

We evaluate each piece and do not fire items that are:

  • structurally unstable

  • too thin or too thick

  • containing holes or air pockets

  • collapsed or cracked

  • unable to sit flat

For the two selected pieces, we:

  1. Trim the bases to make them stable and smooth

  2. Recycle leftover clay

  3. Bisque fire

  4. Glaze in one of our studio colours

  5. Glaze fire a second time

Finished pieces are ready for pickup two weeks later during studio hours.
We hold pieces for one month from the event date.

⭐ IF SOMEONE IS ALREADY EXPERIENCED

If a participant already knows how to throw:

  • we can process up to two mugs (if handles are attached correctly), or

  • two bowls of reasonable size

Still:

👉 Only two fired pieces per person
👉 Colour chosen by the studio

⭐ PLEASE READ BEFORE PURCHASING

To keep everything clear and transparent, we ask all participants to read this page carefully before buying a Date Night.
If you have any questions, concerns, or special needs, please contact us — we’re happy to help.

⭐ REFUND POLICY

We do not offer refunds on Date Night bookings.

Here is why:

  • Each Date Night has very limited space, and once a booking is made, we reserve your wheel, tools, clay, and instructor time.

  • If someone cancels, it is often too late to fill the spot, and the studio absorbs the cost.

  • Because of these limitations, refunds are not possible, but you may transfer your booking to another person if you cannot attend.

This protects the instructors’ time and the sustainability of the studio, while keeping the experience affordable.

⭐ A FRIENDLY NOTE

Date Night is meant to be fun, humble, surprising, and memorable.
Every result is different — sometimes messy, sometimes magical.
What matters most is the experience of touching the clay and discovering a craft that humans have practiced for thousands of years.
