How to Use Colorobbia Liquid Metallics
Important Safety Note:
This product contains hazardous materials and releases toxic fumes when in use. Always work in a well-ventilated space and wear appropriate PPE, including a NIOSH-approved vapor respirator. Avoid contact with skin or clothing.
Surface preparation: Ensure your piece is already glaze-fired, clean, dry, and free of dust or skin oils. If using rubbing alcohol to clean, allow extra drying time before application.
Use dedicated tools: Use soft bristle round or flat brushes reserved only for luster application. Keep disposable paper towels handy for blotting.
Application: Open the luster bottle and dip a soft brush into the solution. The brush should appear wet but not overloaded—lightly wipe off excess on the rim. Apply a thin, even coat; do not thin the luster, as this will reduce the metallic effect and may cause streaking.
Drying: Let the applied luster dry fully in a clean, dust-free environment. Avoid handling the decorated surface during drying to prevent smudging.
Firing preparation: Ensure the kiln is clean and well-ventilated. Place pieces in the kiln while the luster is fully dry. Do not overload.
Firing temperature: Fire to cone 019–018. Use a fast firing schedule with peep holes open for adequate ventilation.
Additional Information
Lusters are overglazes: They are applied on top of a glaze-fired surface and will adopt the underlying glaze texture—glossy, satin, or matte.
Composition: Made from complex blends of metallic salts, resins, and oils to deliver vibrant metallic or iridescent effects.
Use by artists aged 12 and up only. Read instructions before use.
Handling, Clean-Up & Storage
Always wear vinyl gloves and a respirator while working.
If any luster contacts your skin or clothes, wash immediately with warm water and soap.
After use, clean the bottle threads and cap tightly. Store the glass bottle inside its original plastic container to reduce fume exposure.
Keep lusters in a cool, dry place. Heat and humidity may cause thickening over time.
Note: Actual colors may vary from images. Testing before full-scale production is recommended. As the formulation contains precious metals, pricing is subject to change without notice.
